A little about me and my fella…

I’m Heather: science nerd, bookworm, and plant lover.  I have two plant science degrees from Utah State University, and while the second one certifies me as a master weed killer, my real passion is helping things to grow.  I think everyone should – and can! – have a garden; whether that’s an acre of land or a few pots on your windowsill, if there are plants then I consider it a garden.  The idea is that this little website here can help even the brownest thumbs become green.

My husband Terrell is an accountant by day, car and bike enthusiast by night.  He gets almost as excited about spreadsheets and crunching numbers as I do about seed catalogs and emerging cotyledons.  Almost.  He’ll show up around here occasionally providing insight into the economics of home gardening.

A little about the website…

Like I mentioned above, gardening can happen both outside and inside the home, and I’ll write about aspects of both.  You can find everything I post about gardening outside under the In the Garden page.  If you’re interested in more information about how to use what you grow, houseplants, or other gardening activities that can occur inside, you’ll find all those posts over In the Kitchen.

I’ll only ever write from my own experience, and when needed cite my (trusted) resources.  Keep in mind, I’m gardening in northern Utah (USDA Hardiness Zone 5b-6a), and while the zones aren’t hard and fast rules about what you can and can’t plant, they do provide some good guidelines.  In other words, what works in my garden may not work in yours.  And hardiness zone difference is just one possibility; it could be soil, water quality, lighting, etc.  However, just because we live in different places doesn’t mean we can’t learn from each other’s experience, so stick around, get your hands in the dirt, and let’s get growing!

Welcome to my home and garden!

Thanks, Sarah! And, as you can see, I do blog, but not very faithfully as of late. Hopefully that will be changing soon, though, and I’ll get back into a more regular schedule. Because I have a lot of ideas..just not as much time to write about them as I would like.

  3. Would you possibly be interested in doing a guest blog for Gardening Know How (blog.gardeningknowhow.com)? If so, please e-mail me for details. Thanks and have a great day!
