To Everything There is a Season

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven

A time to plant, a time to reap

A time to build, a time to breakdown

Lately when I think of this little ol’ blog of mine, what comes to mind are these lyrics to “Turn! Turn! Turn!” by the Byrds. When I started the blog nearly six (yes, six!) years ago, it was a time to plant and build an idea I had.

An idea to share my knowledge and ideas about gardening. An idea to practice and hone my writing and photography. An idea to connect with others about a shared love of plants.

I think I accomplished all of that – to some degree or another. But, I also felt bogged down in learning (and not very well at that) the technical side of managing a website. I felt pressure (all internal, of course) to write on a more consistent basis, and when I didn’t I felt guilt for spending money to host a website I wasn’t even doing much on. And, I started to feel a bit boxed in on writing topics since this place is called Heather’s Home and Garden.

So, it is for all those reasons, that the time has come to reap and to breakdown.

Thank you for reading, for commenting, for sharing your garden successes (and failures, too!). I hope that something here was useful to your planty-pursuits. It really has been a pleasure sharing this space with you.

Just as the season for this blog has come to an end, there is a new season ahead; the beginning of a new idea I have. I intend to keep writing. About plants, yes, but also insects and people and weather and rocks and ideas in a less prescriptive “how-to” and a lot more “I think this is really neat” kind of way. If that sounds like something you’d be into, you can find me at growcurious.substack.com

I’d love to see you there!
